Internet Use Policies

Accuracy. This website is provided as a public service by the Independence County Sheriff's Department. Our goal is to update information on this site in a timely manner. If you have a question about the accuracy of material on this site, contact the webmaster at webmaster@independencesheriff.org

Privacy Policy. The Independence County Sheriff's Department does not collect personal information about you when you visit this site (cookies, etc.).

Accessibility. It is the policy of the Independence County Sheriff's Department to provide the information contained on this site to the public regardless of any disability. If you have a disability that prevents you from accessing information on this site and you require assistance, send an email to webmaster@independencesheriff.org.

Crimestoppers. A criminal case under investigation may be featured on this site under the Crimestoppers program. The purpose of this program is to solicit leads from the public about criminal cases under investigation. It is the discretion of the Independence County Sheriff's Department to decide which cases will be featured in the Crimestoppers program.

Wanted/Missing Person/Seeking Information. Certain individuals charged by a warrant within the jurisdiction of Independence County that are not in custody will be featured on wanted posters on this site. The purpose for issuing a wanted poster is to solicit leads from the public about the whereabouts of wanted individuals. The criteria for wanted posters include the individual has been charged with a felony crime. These crimes include but are not limited to violent crimes, crimes in which firearms were used, narcotics violations, sex crimes, crimes against property, child support pickup orders and any other felony. The warrant must be entered in the records of the National Crime Information Center. Wanted posters will not be released for juveniles. It is the discretion of the Independence County Sheriff's Department to decide when a wanted poster will be published.

Upon receipt of a missing persons report, the Independence County Sheriff's Department, in addition to other investigative procedures, may issue a missing persons poster. The purpose for issuing a missing persons poster is to solicit leads from the public on the whereabouts of individuals reported as missing or as a runaway. It is the discretion of the Independence County Sheriff's Department to decide when a missing persons poster will be published.

When circumstances warrant, a seeking information poster will be issued. The purpose of a seeking information poster is to solicit leads from the public about a criminal case. These cases will include situations with unknown suspects, unsolved homicides, and certain cases which remain unsolvable ("cold cases"). It is the discretion of the Independence County Sheriff's Department to decide when a seeking information poster will be published.

An alphabetical index by name of active warrants on file with the sheriff's department will be published on this website. All information is considered accurate at the time of publication. Some warrants may become inactive until the next update. The index will be updated at least weekly or as time permits.

Law enforcement agencies should not detain or arrest someone based on information on this website without an official confirmation from the Independence County Sheriff's Department.

Policy changes. If any policies regarding this site are changed, those changes will be reflected on this page accordingly.
