Project ChildSafe

The Independence County Sheriff’s
Department, through a
partnership with Project ChildSafe, is providing free
firearm safety kits to local residents. The safety kit
includes a gun lock.
The kits are being distributed at the Independence County
Sheriff’s Department at 1750 Myers Ave. weekdays (excluding
holidays) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant, Project ChildSafe
is a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
The program will distribute millions of gun safety kits throughout
the United States over the next year.
The locks fit on most types of firearms. The goal of the program
is to prevent a child from accessing a firearm.
